A Life Elided: 09-18-10

The band added "All You Can", the first new track in over a year, to the playlist. This tune represents the first of the next batch of songs which will be loosely grouped into a 3rd CD. Enjoy!

Old News...

A Life Elided: 05-04-09

The A Life Elided website has been redesigned... again! It's been two years since the last redesign, so we've spiffed things up a bit without changing much of the site content itself. All the same music, info, and links can be found with this new design, so enjoy.

A Life Elided: 04-19-09

Two new songs have been added to the playlist! "Seethe" has been nearly finished since the beginning of January but it's just now been uploaded, and "Bergmat" was completed last month and just added now. It was a bit tough to post updates with no working computer at home for nearly a month, but that problem is solved and thus new music is on the way!

A Life Elided: 1-31-08

"This Time" has been added to the playlist. It's always fun to write and record a song over winter break like that. We'll be working on new ideas for the next month or so, but probably won't have any new recordings out until late spring. Keep listening to the old stuff in the meantime.

A Life Elided: 1-8-08

Hey, a new year. "A Fool's Hope" was created about a year ago, and we plan on creating a song this winter break too, most likely after a fish fry and some hearty beer. Additionally, almost all of the older tracks on the second half of our playlist have been remixed and touched up. The updates are not very obvious in most tracks, but there is an improvement in overall quality. "Esprit de..." however, has some pretty significant changes you should be able to notice outright.

A Life Elided: 11-23-07

Work, school, school, work. That's pretty much what we have been up to sadly. Soon enough, we're going to go back and redo some drums, guitars, FX and more on some of the older tracks to bring them up to par with our newer material. After that, it's time for more new material.

A Life Elided: 09-12-07

Despite the start of yet another semester for Kent, and the shameful period of post-graduation unemployment for Nate, Resound has been added, and new tracks are soon to follow.

A Life Elided: 08-20-07

It's been quite delayed, but An Angel's Apathy is finally done!!! It's probably our favorite release of the summer, so the time we put into it is well worth it. Expect one or two more tracks before fall rolls in and the daily grind returns to punish us.

A Life Elided: 08-01-07

What a busy time of the year... the first Effigy gig in years , moving into new apartments, orchestra concerts, family events, and of course new techno material. Eonder was just added, and a new tune is almost completely done, only needing a few guitar tracks before it's ready to be released!

A Life Elided: 07-05-07

We're having a fairly productive summer so far! Drawn In was completed in mid-June and The Undertow and Maligned have recently been added too. And... not surprisingly... yet another track is already in the works.

A Life Elided: 06-06-07

New song kids!!! Check out Drawn In, the second song on our tracklist. This one is a real tear-jerker, but the next song we're going to release (probably in just a week or two) is going to be a real ass-kicker!

A Life Elided: 05-25-07

Hey hey, new website. We're also very excited to announce that two new tracks are being created right now. One is a slow, ambient, depressing track and the other is slightly hyper!

About Our Music
A Life Elided writes, records, and produces instrumental techno/rock music. The original musical goal was to record one song inspired by some of the music from the Boogie Pop Phantom soundtrack. Since then, the group has written a variety of different songs, and hopes to continue writing many more. All songs are written, performed, recorded, and produced by Kent Heberling and Nathan Paul.

Kent Heberling plays bass, synths, and some guitar as well as programming drums and effects. Nathan Paul is responsible for most of the guitar tracks.

Bio

From the first thought of the morning to the last bit of consciousness at night, the mind never settles. Constantly darting between drastically differing temperaments, the quest for calm never succeeds. But amidst this chaotic structure lie a few overwhelming motivations, the desire for a purpose, and the desire to understand that purpose. The mind broods over these questions throughout the day, and as the night approaches the mind destroys through doubt all that which it wove together, leaving next morning's questions as daunting as before.

Each daily struggle for purpose is a building block which combines with the others to reflect their individual shape's on a grander scale. And thus, the daily struggle for relevance and direction is emulated over the course of a year. Spring's thoughts transform into summer's assuredness, but are destroyed through fall’s doubts before winter arrives. The years combine to form decades of epiphanies and pitfalls, which create a life of flawed internal logic that is carried to the grave. Life after life runs through this cycle, forming generation after generation of false understandings and harsh returns to reality. Each individual thought is swept into the general consensus as each life elides into the next.

But there will always be a few who manage to stand out...

Extended Bio

Kent Heberling and Nathan Paul first met in middle school orchestra, where Kent played cello and Nate played viola. They furthered their musical endeavors with their band, Effigy, throughout high school. They first made music as A Life Elided in August 2005, and have continued to work on songs when not in school.

Kent graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a B.F.A. in Music Composition/Technology and a minor in German. Nate just graduated from Michigan-Tech with a Computer Science degree. The boys now work as programmers in Milwaukee, desperately trying to pay back student loans and squeeze in recording sessions when possible.
